Fall Ready with Fashion Outlets Niagara Falls, USA (you have to see the shoes I snagged for only $16!)

It’s becoming that time of year again where the malls are getting stocked with lots of sweaters, boots and back-to-school everything! Being a Canadian, this is a little disappointing since we basically spend 9 months in the cold! But, as retail would have it Fall starts in July and so does Fall transitional shopping! Fall, here in Toronto, can actually start off quite hot. September can be pretty darn humid and we usually have a few weeks of really warm weather in October too. This means, my fall transition clothes tend to be lighter weight so I can layer on-top as the cold weather slowly comes. My favourite thing about buying Fall transitional clothes is styling them for Summer and then layering them for cold weather! My least favourite thing about Fall transitional clothing is spending a lot of $$$ since I like to save my money for the heavy winter jackets and sweaters to come (ugh Winter is the WORST!). But, to all my Canadian gals do not fret! An easy trip across the border to Buffalo will have all your Fall transitional, back-to-school, and Winter needs met! First off, my trip to the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, USA was super quick and straight forward from Toronto. I’ve been to Buffalo for some across the border shopping before, but, I’ve never been to the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls. And I can say I was definitely missing out on such crazy low prices on items that would have…

3 Reasons to Ditch the LBD for A LBJ (little black jumpsuit)

Jumpsuit: Marshalls (only $29.99 – similar here, here, here) | Shoes: Dolce Vita (only $16.00 at Saks on 5th at the Fashion Outlets Niagara Falls, USA) | Clutch: H&M | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban | Bracelet: Paul Hewitt | Choker: Mejuri You guys, if you don’t already have a LBJ (little black jumpsuit) in your life you need one pronto! Think of the LBJ as the LBD’s cooler and more spontaneous little sister. It’s basically the best piece you will ever own in your closet for several reasons, but here are the 3 best reasons to grab one now! 3 Reasons to Ditch the LBD for A LBJ: 1.  They are so dang flattering! You’re probably thinking “Yeah and LBD’S are extremely flattering too!“. And I would totally agree except for one reason and one reason only. What LBD can be flowy, cosy like pj’s and flattering at the same time. None. Period. Now, not all LBJ’S are going to hit each of those points. BUT, wide leg jumpsuits are all the rage right now. So chances are you’re gonna be able to find a jumpsuit that is amazingly flattering and perfect for dancing, moving in general, and most importantly eating! No sucking in required. 2. They are a dime a dozen but yet nobody has them! This point is pretty awesome. Basically, every major retailer is carrying multiple styles of the LBJ, yet, not many people are rocking them! Because of this, guaranteed the LBJ you score will have major heads turning…

Top 5 Mesh Pieces for Summer

Top: H&M (similar) | Skirt: Missguided (on sale!) | Shoes: J Adams c/o (under $40 + available in a ton of colours!) | Clutch: H&M | Sunglasses: Shade Crush c/o  I’ve been dying to try this mesh trend for a while, but haven’t cared much for some of the styles I’ve previously seen. I saw a lot that were mesh maxi dresses with floral embroidery, and tops as well. I don’t like the idea of having to buy a slip under a dress or a tank to put under a see through mesh shirt, so I decided to pass on both styles! Personally, I like when a dress or top come with something underneath to make it not see through! But, when I saw this embroidered pencil skirt number on Missguided, I decided to give it a go! It is an extremely cute trendy piece to have in your Summer wardrobe that’s for sure! I would suggest sizing up since it is a little on the small side, and I was barely able to breathe in my true size, lol! I really liked pairing it with this basic crop top from h&m ($3.99!!), and thought it would even be cute with a basic white tee too! Honestly, this won’t be a piece that will get a ton of rotation in my wardrobe. But, it’s really cute and unique and a great show stopper to pull out on date night! With that being said, here are my top 5 faaaaaaave mesh pieces…

Summer Must: A Classic White Button-Up Shirt

Shirt: H&M | Skirt: H&M | Purse: H&M | Shoes: Charlotte Russe (similar) | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban Okay, I once again have a new obsession with something! And that something is the classic white button up shirt. I am so behind in the fashion world (clearly) and have never tried this chic and effortless top. I know what you’re probably thinking. “This girl gets a new obsession like every 5 minutes” lol. Which in all honesty is true! BUT, in my defence, this obsession is a timeless piece that I am SO happy I found! I actually just stumbled upon this shirt while shopping for something completely different at H&M (that always happens, am I right?!). I had a jean skirt in my hands already and I thought to myself, this would be such a simple but cute outfit! What I really loved about the shirt was how light weight and soft it was! And what really made me take the plunge was that it was $14.99. Such a good price! Basically, the moral of this story is. You NEED a classic white button up shirt in your life. I’ve already worn it with so many pieces, but my favourite has got to be this look! It’s truly such a timeless piece that is flattering on every woman, and it really is the definition of an effortless look. That being said, I think I’m gonna stock up on more. Don’t tell Qais, lol!!   xo Lauren

Currently Crushing On: Moon River

Dress: Moon River | Purse: H&M | Shoes: Charlotte Russe (similar) | Sunglasses: Ray Ban   Firstly, I just want to mention that this dress in red in person! I tried so hard to ensure the true colour would be visible in the pictures. But, since the dress does have an orange undertone it is appearing more orange then red. But this is a red dress, I promise! Just wanted to throw it out there before some of you guys commented on the fact that it was orange, lol!! One of my favourite things to do, as a fashion lover, is to find new brands! I really do stick to a budget when shopping. But every now and then I try to find a quality brand to ‘splurge’ on. Now I know that everybody has a different idea on how much you have to spend to splurge. Honestly, for me it’s spending over $100 on a piece of clothing. Especially, a piece that is not for any special occasion. That being said, I believe in having a few quality pieces in your closet you can wear for everyday. It just makes you feel better and makes your wardrobe more versatile (in my opinion!). I stumbled across Moon River while looking for my Canada Day dress (told you its red, lol!). I was looking for a chic boho dress that I could wear out after Canada Day celebrations. When I found this dress I completely fell in love! I’ve never heard…

3 Easy Ways to be Effortlessly Casual with Suns Shoes

Dress: H&M (only $12.99!) | Denim Top: Zara (similar) | Shoes: Suns Shoes | Purse: Old Navy | Cap: H&M | Sunglasses: Ray Ban Truthfully, I am not much of a casual girl. It is always a struggle for me to find something casual to wear. I tend to buy more trendy pieces to wear out or on a date, then to run around in. I do have a drawer full of yoga pants like most girls. But, when it comes to just a walk to grab an ice cream and I still want to look cute I really don’t have much! Obviously, my blog’s name is Basic Babe for a reason. That reason being that I tend to be more on the minimalistic side when dressing for whichever occasion. But recently, I’ve been trying to stock up on literally more basic’s for day’s I want to dress more casual and comfy.  That being said I don’t want to be casual and boring, because that’s no fun, lol! So I’ve made up a few rules I like to stick to when I want to look effortlessly casual: 3 Easy Ways to be Effortlessly Casual: 1. A cute pair of kicks goes a long way! (especially when they change colours!!) First things first, a cute pair of shoes is a must to really master the effortlessly casual look. Layering for Summer

Top: H&M (only $7.99!) | Shorts: Missguided | Vest: Dynamite (similar and similar) | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: Old Navy | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o Happy Wednesday, babes! This month has been crazy fast and I can’t believe we are already are mid-way through July! I am a definite Summer girl but sometimes I miss Fall layers. Something about layering can make an outfit feel more put together and chic. And because I’ve been trying to try new styles this Summer, I thought a little layering would be fun to try too! I’ve been loving layering over shorts especially when you want more coverage. Usually, when I’m at work and want to wear shorts I like to be more conservative and throw a duster over top. But, It’s been waaaay too hot for a duster so this long vest is really the perfect layering piece! I also love adding texture to my layers to add some character. I paired my vest with these high waisted embroidered shorts (which I have been living in, btw!) and my go-to rib tank. Side note, this tank is literally all I wear right now. It was only $7.99 from H&M and it goes with basically everything. I tried finding this exact one in white, but for some reason, H&M doesn’t carry it in white. Which is so weird! The vest I’m wearing is older but I’ve linked similar and these shorts from Missguided does fit TTS! I’ve also linked my fave rib tank from…

Summer Must: Floral Skirt

Top: Missguided (now 40% off!) | Skirt: Missguided (under $30 and now 40% off!) | Purse: H&M | Shoes: Charlotte Russe (similar) | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o So as you probably know, I’m a huge lover of neutrals! Neutrals to me are just so effortless and classy and they’ve become my go to’s. But once in a while, I do like to add in a print! One of my favourite prints are florals and if you haven’t noticed black florals are all the rage this summer season! I didn’t have any black florals in my closet for summer (surprising, I know!), so when I saw this skirt from Missguided I knew I had to snag it! And I have to say I am head over heels about it! I’m also all about lightweight fabric for the summer. Here in Toronto, summers can get really hot and humid and I hate being sticky and sweaty. So I’m always looking for a breathable lightweight fabric! The day that I shot this it was hot and humid, but I was perfectly comfortable in these pieces. If you’re looking for an easy floral skirt to wear every day this it would be my go-to! I love it with the pleated off the shoulder shirt, it gave me major vacay vibes! I am just so obsessed with this outfit that I want to wear it nonstop. Like you know when you find that outfit you love and you could literally wear it every day of your life?…

Top 5 White Shirt Dresses

Dress: Missguided | Shoes: Vince | Purse: Old Navy | Sunglasses: Aldo (similar) Happy Friday babes! This week has been so short but it’s felt really long at the same time! Qais and I have been getting are house ready to go on the market. Which means so much cleaning, so much organising and throwing out pretty much all of my winter clothes! Which is okay, since I told Qais I’ll just need a whole new wardrobe for Winter ;), lol! But, all in all, Qais and I are just so excited to move into a new condo. Something about moving feels like a fresh start and it’s just exciting entering into a new season of life!  So I’ve been really into white shirt dresses the summer! So much so, I already have another white shirt dress blog post here! Qais, though, isn’t so much of a fan of them. He always tells me I look like I’m in a nurses costume, lol! But I am totally in love with this white shirt dress from Missguided. You can wear this shirt dress with almost anything, and it always looks fab! It’s just such an easy piece to have in your closet, and I mean why not have a white shirt dress you can wear up or down, to work, or on date night! Currently Crushing On: Burnt Orange

Dress: Missguided (only $20!!) | Shoes: Aldo | Clutch: H&M | Sunglasses: Quay I’m not one for too much colour. I really like to keep things pretty basic and stick to neutrals. It’s not that I don’t like colour, I just sometimes get scared to wear it, lol! I have seriously shied away from colour most of my adult life. But, I am slowly warming up to colour and I am currently loving burnt orange right now! Okay, to be totally honest, I used to hate orange. Like absolutely despise it! I just thought it was an unflattering colour on me and never gave it a chance. With that being said, I took a major plunge and decided to try burnt orange with this dress! I have been looking for a dress like this since I saw the dRa Los Angeles one here. I’ve been dying to get my hands on that one but didn’t want to spend the money. Although, I love dRa and think I’m going to invest in a few pieces in the near future! Anyways, I saw this dress on Missguided and wanted it so bad I decided to just do the orange. When it first came in the mail I was a little scared and wasn’t sure if I would wear it out or even post it on the blog! I tried it on and Qais actually liked it, which made me feel better about it! The day I actually shot the dress and did my…
