As a self-proclaimed shopping addict, learning to control my spending habit is key. I could easily spend $500 shopping at my fave online retailer within 10 minutes, if paying my mortgage and buying groceries weren’t necessary. I’ve obviously had to learn self-control and learn to mix and my match my wardrobe endlessly to create different looks. I honestly have such a hard time trying to create a variety of looks. Because of that, I’ve really had to learn to play with colours, textures and even incorporating previous season pieces to achieve endless options. So inspired by my above look I’ve decided to share my go-to steps on how to incorporate your Summer pieces into your Winter wardrobe!:
1. PICK A WHITE OR NEUTRAL PIECE
As you probably know, each season has it’s own colour palette. Spring and Summer colours tend to be light, such as pastels, and will be a little off trend to incorporate into Winter. Plus, I don’t know many people who want to wear mint in the Winter! The easiest way to incorporate any Summer piece, whether it’s your fave dress, skirt or shirt, is to stick to white or neutrals.
2. ADD A LITTLE BIT OF CHUNK
The best way to pull together a cold season look is to add something chunky. I choose to wear a super chunky and long white sweater underneath my jean jacket. It instantly takes it from Summer chic to Winter warmth. Chunk is always key. And it doesn’t only have to be a sweater. You can pair a Summer dress under a thick wool coat or a long cozy cardigan!
3. ACCESSORIZE WITH WINTER ACCESSORIES
The easiest way to really take your Summer pieces into Winter glam is to add accessories. Now, I didn’t accessorize above because it was a whooping 4 degrees celsius (which is a really mild day for Toronto in January) and Winter accessories weren’t needed. But, if it was cooler I would have thrown on a big leopard print scarf or some faux fur. Think cozy and warm for your accessories. And if you were wondering if I was cold wearing this outfit in 4 degree celsius weather, the answer is no! It get’s waaaaay colder here, which makes 4 degrees celsius feel warm! (sad but true!)
4. GIVE IT SOME BOOTIE
No Winter look is complete without a cute pair of boots. To really transition your Summer pieces into your Winter wardrobe, be sure to throw on a pair of boots or booties. Nothing completes a cold weather look better then a pair of suede or leather booties. Not only do they add warmth to the entire look, but are obviously a #winteressential!

Those sunnies are amazing! I recently went the minimalistic route with my wardrobe so this post is very helpful. Some of my summer outfits get a LOT of extra wear now because I’ve incorporated them into my fall/winter line up. Great post. Cheers!
Cute outfit Lauren, I’m loving your sunnies! This made me miss summer haha.
I find layering is a great way to still use some of my summer stuff. All about the boots, have to have some great boots.
Cute outfit! Love the boots. Great photos.
I love this post! I mix and match throughout the seasons all the time … mostly because I don’t have the patience to put away one season’s worth of clothes all the time so everything stays in the closet together!
These are great tips! I love this whole look, that jean jacket is so perfect with the white sweater.
