Where to Stay in PEC: Merrill House 1878

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of exploring beautiful Prince Edward County with an amazing group of influencers and the lovely host, Jordan, of one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed, the Merrill House 1878.

The Merrill House is a boutique hotel with 14 enchanting rooms with each a different theme. We stayed in the Dreaming Suite which was honestly the most incredible room with impeccable attention to detail. From thought provoking paintings from a local artist to the marble fireplace, this suite is the perfect getaway for you and your beau. The entire hotel was recently renovated but still has plenty of its historic charm mixed with vintage and contemporary pieces hand selected by hotel owner Jordan. I also had a major thing for the bathrooms which were beautifully renovated and now I want to re-do my condo’s bathroom to look exactly like the Merrill’s!

If this stunning boutique hotel wasn’t enough to get you already packing your bags, then wait until you hear about the incredible restaurant with a Burgundy inspired menu. We ate like kings and queens with a delicious 5 course meal consisting of Escargot to Venison and a selection of local cheeses! Each meal was served with a local wine pairing and it truly transported Qais and I into a different world!

What we did in PEC:

Not only did Jordan invite us out to stay at the Merrill House. But, he also created an itinerary for us to explore PEC’s best wineries and sights.

We kicked off our Victoria’s Day weekend at the Grange of Prince Edward Winery and at Karlos Estates Wine. What I love about wine country in PEC is how they are small wineries still ran by local owners. It’s definitely a different experience then all the ‘big boy’ wineries in NOTL but I would highly recommend trying a wine tour in PEC this Summer.

We ended our first evening at the Merrill House for cocktail hour and dinner, which was easily one of my favourite parts of the day!

Our second day, we toured the Cape PE which is a 14,000 sq ft. mansion that sits on the property next to the Merrill House. The Cape PE was spectacular and would be a beautiful place to have your wedding (the bridal suite is to die for) or corporate events.

We then finished our day at the Lake on the Mountain which we were told was one of the best views in the county – and it did not disappoint. What I loved about the Lake on the Mountain, besides the views, was the cute coffee shops and restaurants located right along the road. It would be such a great spot to grab a relaxing lunch with your family and friends and enjoy a day in the county.

Qais and I had to cut the trip short to head back to Toronto, but we ended our PEC trip at the County Cider. I’ve honestly never been a fan of cider, buy my gosh, the cider here is on a whole different level. Both Qais and I had the peach blackberry cider and it was SO good. I would highly recommend checking out the Cider County for your next trip out to PEC for the cider and the amazing views from their property.

Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Merrill House for my next trip to PEC. In fact, I would probably go to PEC so I could stay at the Merrill House for its food and wine. I could honestly spend the entire weekend there without leaving the property – fact. Whether it’s a girls weekend in the county, an anniversary celebration with your boo or just because you want to, the Merrill House is perfect for whatever purpose brings you to the county.
