5 Puffer Jackets You Need for Winter

As much as I’m over the cold and Winter (Spring, you’re free to show up at anytime now) I honestly love building my jacket wardrobe every year. I’ve been a huge fan of the teddy jacket the past couple of years. But, the puffer jackets have made a huge comeback, thanks to the 90’s trending in fashion, and I thought I’d give this trend a go! My metallic puffer jacket is from Shein (under $40) and actually pretty warm! I layered it with my black fuzzy turtleneck and I was so toasty. Besides my feet and face lol. I shared this puffer on Instagram stories and had such a great response to it that I decided to round up my favourite puffer jackets you need this Winter! My advice, get them all 😉 5 Puffer Jackets You Need for Winter: Shein Revolve Missguided Shopbop Pretty Little Thing Which puffer jacket is your favourite? xo Lauren

Random Life Update!

Top | Jeans | Jacket | Boots (similar) | Purse Hey guys! Happy Wednesday! I feel like it’s been so long since I’ve given you guys a life update. Sometimes it’s just nice to share what’s going on in my life with my blog readers. It’s almost therapeutic to write it out. Especially since these last few months have been such a huge change for me! So where should I start… WORK LIFE: Firstly, life has been HECTIC since Shop Basic Babe has started. Now, SBB isn’t my first business. I owned a children’s store before. But man, is SBB teaching me SO much. I feel like once you own your own business, you kinda feel like you know what you’re doing. But I’m learning I don’t. I’m so thankful I have such a great team helping me with SBB. I am learning soooo much about branding, marketing and really how to make an online business work. And it seriously is more work then I expected. So naive I know. Overall, the online shop has been a hustle but so good at the same time! My blog is getting a facelift – which is much needed! So excited to show you guys the reveal. It was just time to freshen it up and re-brand. I’ve also felt like it was just time. My blog and brand has grown and changed so much in the past year and I really wanted to reflect that! And in other EXCITING news… my husband (who…

3 Guaranteed Ways to Make your Blog (or Instagram) Pictures Better!

Top | Skirt | Jacket | Shoes (similar) | Purse I get asked a lot about my blog and Instagram pictures. From how I edit them to how I get them to look so professional and what camera’s I use. I have an editing guide here if you were wondering about editing. But today’s blog post is how to take the ‘perfect’ picture before editing! So let’s jump right in! 3 Guaranteed Ways to Make your Blog (or Instagram) Pictures Better!: 1. Create a story Don’t just take a picture. Create a story. Use buildings in the background to create interest, depth and height. Take advantage of the way the sunlight is hitting the road or the way it’s hitting your hair. Look at your surroundings and try to make them create a story for either your blog post or Instagram. Create a vibe or a feeling. Nothing is more captivating than an image that creates a story. It’s so easy to take a picture in front of a wall and call it a day. But it’s so much more exciting and inspiring to use your surrounding to help tell the story about your outfit! 2. Capture the candid To really create a story try and capture the candid moments. Nothing shoots better than an authentic walk (vs the fake walk – which rarely looks good). Walk around your shooting location, naturally interact with what’s around you and do your thing. I like to pretend that Qais isn’t there shooting…

Top 5 Camel Coats for Under $200

Coat | Dress (under $50) | Boots (sold out – similar)| Purse The blazer coat is the ultimate sophisticated Winter essential, in my opinion. I love how you can wear it with your best dress or with a pair of your fave yoga leggings and kicks. It’s seriously versatile. Seriously chic. And looks good on everyone! I’ve been dying to get my hands on a nice blazer coat since last Winter. But, I always have a budget in mind and really didn’t want to spend too much. Being from a cold climate, I love having a wide variety of jackets to wear! I mean I am a fashion blogger, so choice is essential lol! Because of this, the right price is super key for me. My sweet spot for my “not every day” jackets would honestly be under $100! Now, this price is pretty unrealistic for a well-made jacket. But, I did snag this one from Missguided on sale for $80. I know that many people, like me, like to spend a decent amount on jackets too. I mean a jacket like this is classic, so I most likely won’t be replacing this one anytime soon! That being said, here are my top 5 camel coats for under $200. Top 5 Camel Coats for Under $200: Missguided PrettyLittleThing TopShop Boohoo NA-KD (not camel but I love it in blush) xo Lauren

Mixing Summer and Fall Pieces

Bodysuit: Missguided | Skirt: Boohoo | Bag: Similar | Watch: Daniel Wellington c/o | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o | Shoes: J Adams c/o Happy Monday! It has been BRUTALLY hot here in Toronto. Summer decided to come at Fall, which is great, and I’ll take it, but it would’ve been nice to have this weather last month, lol! When I shot this look I was seriously dripping sweat. I don’t know why I decided to wear a sweater bodysuit, but hey, in the name of fashion, right? The one perk about this warm Summer weather is getting a little extra wear out of my Summer wardrobe. I love incorporating Summer pieces where I can and they can sometimes make the cutest outfits! I bought this gingham skirt from Boohoo in July (I think). Gingham has been huge this past season and I really love the print! I’ve also been adding in some long sleeves and sweaters for Fall. When I saw this mustard rib bodysuit from Missguided I knew it had to be mine. I love bodysuits and not having to keep tucking my top in. Plus, the off the shoulder on this bodysuit just makes it that much more fun! Also, I think it’s time for a few new purses here at Basic Babe!! I’ve been rocking the same few non-stop all Summer. Does anyone else have a hard time find purses they love to add to the rotation?! xo Lauren
