Mixing Summer and Fall Pieces

Bodysuit: Missguided | Skirt: Boohoo | Bag: Similar | Watch: Daniel Wellington c/o | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o | Shoes: J Adams c/o Happy Monday! It has been BRUTALLY hot here in Toronto. Summer decided to come at Fall, which is great, and I’ll take it, but it would’ve been nice to have this weather last month, lol! When I shot this look I was seriously dripping sweat. I don’t know why I decided to wear a sweater bodysuit, but hey, in the name of fashion, right? The one perk about this warm Summer weather is getting a little extra wear out of my Summer wardrobe. I love incorporating Summer pieces where I can and they can sometimes make the cutest outfits! I bought this gingham skirt from Boohoo in July (I think). Gingham has been huge this past season and I really love the print! I’ve also been adding in some long sleeves and sweaters for Fall. When I saw this mustard rib bodysuit from Missguided I knew it had to be mine. I love bodysuits and not having to keep tucking my top in. Plus, the off the shoulder on this bodysuit just makes it that much more fun! Also, I think it’s time for a few new purses here at Basic Babe!! I’ve been rocking the same few non-stop all Summer. Does anyone else have a hard time find purses they love to add to the rotation?! xo Lauren

Currently Crushing On: Kimonos

Kimono: Shein (under $30!)| Bodysuit: Missguided (on sale!) | Jeans: H&M | Shoes: Similar | Purse: Le Chateau | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o Happy Monday from NYC! I jet back home today, but I’m trying to take in every last second here in the big city. New York is such a fun place and gives me all the style inspo feels, lol! I come to this city a few times a year and each time I come I always tell Qais if we don’t end up moving to LA we are moving to NYC. LA just has my heart because of the warm weather! Okay, I am so into kimonos! I really have always been into kimonos, so when I saw they are back in style I knew I had to get at least one showstopper kimono! Walk in Wonderland featured this kimono on her Instagram. I was SO obsessed with the kimono, but she didn’t link it and I figured it was probably out of my price range anyways! Then one day I was shopping at Zara and saw it on the rack. I ran over and tried on the last size they had left. Which was a medium but a little too big. Plus, I wasn’t a huge fan of the price ($89.95). It was nice but not $89.95 nice, lol! Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I stumbled upon the EXACT same kimono at Shein. And this is why I LOVE Shein. They always have the same thing as…

Top 5 Not-So-Basic Cardigans for Fall

Sweater: Rylee & Cru | Bodysuit: Missguided | Jeans: Zara | Shoes: Sam Edelman | Purse: Foley + Corinna | Hat: H&M | Sunglasses: Forever 21 (similar)   Yay for Friday and for the weekend! I fly out to New York tomorrow for a quick business trip. I love going to New York (and wish I could’ve had my business trip during NYFW) and love how inspired I feel after I leave. Just something about that New York energy makes you want to work harder and achieve more, lol! I’ll probably be bringing this fuzzy cardigan with me on the flight tomorrow. There is nothing better than a big warm cardigan to layer with. It’s such an essential for the colder weather and a staple piece, in my opinion! I went on a purging spree a few months back and gave away ALL of my winter items. Including all my beloved cardigans. So I really need to start shopping for some new sweaters, cardigans and all that good stuff! And although, I am the self-titled Basic Babe. I like my cardigans to have a little bit more edge. So I’ve rounded up my top 5 not so basic cardigans for Fall! Top 5 Not-So-Basic Cardigans for Fall Rylee & Cru ASOS Revolve Forever 21 (NEED!) H&M xo Lauren

Currently Crushing On: #OTK Boots

Top: Missguided (sold out – similar) | Jeans: Zara | Boots: Marc Fisher (ON SALE – under $200!) | Purse: Old Navy (similar) | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o So if you’ve been following me for awhile you’ll know my love for over-the-knee boots is REAL! I would literally live in these boots all Fall and Winter long if it was possible. I’d also wear them with every outfit on my blog if that was possible too. But I think you guys would get real bored of that, lol! In all seriousness though. I am just a lover of all boots over-the-knee. And this year is the first year I decided to #treatmyself and buy a nicer pair of boots! I snagged these at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for just under $200 and I’m in love. I know that’s not much to spend on boots, but your girl bought a pair of black #otk for under $100 last year! And I would never spend so little again after having these babies on my feet, lol! They fit TTS, are made of high-quality faux suede and are the perfect pointed toe! They also stay up on your leg when you’re wearing them with a dress. Which is amazing! I struggled with my otk boots falling down every time I took a step last year, lol! So if you are in the market for a new pair of over-the-knee boots, look no further! These are awesome and ON SALE! So a total win-win. xo…

Fall Must: A Pleated Midi Skirt

Top: Tobi c/o | Skirt: H&M (this colour isn’t available online – other colours here)| Purse: H&M (similar) | Shoes: Charlotte Russe (similar) | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o I have never honestly been a midi girl until this Summer. I’ve always thought I was waaaaaaay too short to wear a midi skirt until I randomly bought one from Boohoo a few months back. You can see that skirt here. After rocking this skirt all Summer long I decided to add another midi to my closet! It was actually Qais who sniped this skirt first. Which is weird since he always zones out when we go shopping, lol! He told me he really liked it and so I decided to try it on and LOVED it! It reminds me of Christmas, for whatever reason, and I think I’ll be wearing it to church for our Christmas Eve service. Majorly thinking ahead, I know! Anyway, I am really into this colour and the pleats are just perfect! I wanted to make it not look so dressed up so I paired it with this lace up sleeve crop from Tobi. Which, would totally look cute with some high waisted denim too! I wasn’t sure if I could pull this top off since I tend to gravitate to a bit more feminine. But I think it really works with this skirt! PS.. you may see this skirt again in the next few weeks with a dainty blouse! I just love it that much!!…

Is anyone else really loving this cooler weather? Call me crazy, but, it’s been so refreshing! And, it’s been so fun layering and trying new styles out for Fall. I am pretty excited to start adding to my jacket collection and of course my jean collection too! I’ve been talking a lot about my new obsession with jeans lately on the blog. I’ve never been a jean girl, until very recently, and now I am hooked! Zara definitely has been my go-to for a good pair of distressed jeans. They’ve also been having a great selection of high waisted jeans. I mean you can never ever go wrong with Zara! Am-I-right?! But, today is all about the distressed jean. And since Fall is literally around the corner, I’ve decided to round up my top 5 distressed jeans for Fall! Top 5 Distressed Jeans for Fall: Zara Express Shopbop (one of my faves!!) Girlfriend Jeans

Top: Similar  | Jeans: Tobi (on sale!) | Purse: Foley + Corinna | Shoes: Sam Edelman (on sale!) | Sunglasses: Similar Happy Labor Day! Qais and I are having a slow weekend just enjoying each others company. It has been such a nice few days without a schedule and we have been loving the super slow start to our mornings (which is so rare, we are always on the go)! Today’s post is going to be short and sweet, as I’m sure many of you have a full day plan unplugged! Recently, I have been getting really into growing my jean collection since I am not much of a jean girl whatsoever. I’ve been trying new styles out and really trying to find out what styles suit me and what I like. These girlfriend jeans are really new to me, and are similar to boyfriend jeans but not as loose! I never thought I would try a looser fitting jean but I saw them online and thought I’d give them a go. I think they’d look great paired with a tighter fitting bodysuit, crop top, or a knit bell sleeve top like the one I’m wearing! Fit wise, they are really comfortable to wear and great quality too. I definitely think jeans and a bell sleeve top are going to be my new Fall uniform! I am totally stocking up on both pieces ASAP! Shop New Fall Arrivals from Tobi! xo Lauren

Fall Must: Suede Skirt

Top: Rachel Roy | Vest: Missguided (50% off!) | Skirt: Missguided (50% off!)| Shoes: Sam Edelman (on sale!) | Purse: Foley + Corinna | Sunglasses: Shades Crush Happy Friday and long weekend-eve! Qais and I don’t have any solid plans for the long weekend, but we may spend time with family and go wine tasting. Which, is always a good idea in my books lol! As you probably know, I am getting really, like reaaaally, excited for Fall! I’ve been stocking on all things mustard, tons of booties and my favorite Fall staple, suede! I love suede everything. Suede pants, skirts, tops (I actually don’t know if that exists, lol) and of course suede boots! But, suede skirts are just so good for the cool and crisp weather. They offer not only warmth but obviously style too! This skirt from Missguided is not real suede. I don’t think I own any real suede, to be honest. But this “faux” suede does the job in comfort and style. One of my favorite places to buy faux suede anything is actually H&M. They just kill it in this department and I highly recommend checking some of their ‘faux’ suede pieces out when you get a chance! Also, I am dying over this vest I snagged from Missguided! When I saw it I knew I had to have it and now I can’t even take it off, lol! AND if you really feel like shopping, Missguided is having 50% off EVERYTHING with code ‘americanbabe’! xo Lauren

Currently Crushing On: Fall Florals

Dress: Missguided | Shoes: Sam Edelman (under $50!) | Purse: H&M (similar) | Sunglasses: Nicole Miller Guys, two things you really need to get into if you haven’t already. Fall florals and wrap dresses! They are the two best prints and styles for Fall, in my opinion, and I am totally crushing hard on them! If you haven’t jumped on the wrap dress bandwagon from Summertime, then you need to NOW! It seriously is so flattering on so many body types and makes such an easy pull-together look. I have been stocking up on as many as I can get my hands on after buying my first wrap dress here, lol!  This dress from Missguided is more like a faux wrap dress since it doesn’t actually wrap. But it gives it that wrap dress illusion, which I like! I actually featured it as one of my top 5’s on this post here. I couldn’t resist it and ended taking the plunge and purchasing it! I mean it was 50% off so why not?! My second major crush is florals for Fall. Florals are obvious for Spring, but florals for Fall are amazing too! I especially love black florals but I’ve been really into yellow and mustard lately, so I am really digging these lighter ones too! 6 Draped Trench Coats you Need for Fall!

Jacket:  Missy Empire (under $60!) | Dress: Forever 21 (under $20!) | Shoes: Charlotte Russe (similar) | Purse: Foley + Corinna | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban | Choker: Mejuri What do I love about Fall? Pumpkin spice lattes (how cliché), homemade soup, and super cute jackets for layering! What I hate about Fall? That it’s next to Winter, lol! But let’s focus on the positive. Fall equals coats and coats equal the one classic you should own in your closet right now. The trench coat. And if you don’t own the trench coat, um why not? It’s such an essential layering piece and literally screams “this girl is classy!”, lol! But, for real, the trench is a staple for Fall. And, if you don’t own one yet, that’s okay! I’ve rounded up my favourite 6 draped trench coats. Which is kind of like a cross between a duster and a trench! Which I think is so fab! It’s so easy to style. Think over basically anything in your closet. Whether that’s a pair of jeans and converses, trousers and heels or a midi and sandals! Check out my list below and tell me when one is your fave: 6 Draped Trench Coats you Need for Fall: Missy Empire River Island Joe Fresh Boohoo Express Boohoo xo Lauren
