Dress (under $50!) | Jacket (similar here and here) | Boots | Purse So I found it! My must have Winter dress that is appropriate for the cold and the warm. For work, play and everything in-between! I literally found the perfect Winter dress. The fit is so good. The colour is flattering on so many skin tones. And the length isn’t too long or too short! Yes, I am totally obsessed! And you’re probably thinking “she is probably biased since she sells it at Shop Basic Babe“. I totally could be biased. But honestly, I’m not and this dress is just that good! I’m super picky when it comes to wearing a dress in the winter. I literally live in jeans and leather leggings, since finding a dress that can work with Winter is hard. And what I mean by works with Winter is this. Firstly, the dress needs to have long sleeves. Secondly, it can’t be too short. Cause when I don’t want to wear tights (I stroooongly dislike tights) I want to be able to throw own my over-the-knee boots and for there to be minimum skin. And thirdly, and lastly, it needs to be able to be worn to anything and everything! To work, date night, girls night etc. I even had a customer wear it to a baby shower! Check, check, check. And there ya go! My personal go-to dress for Winter for many valid reasons! Lol. What do you guys think? xo Lauren

Cardigan (on sale!) | Jeans | Bodysuit | Purse I’m officially in hibernation season! January, in Toronto, typically is super snowy and extremely cold. Which means it’s time for me to get the house all cozy and my wardrobe cozy too! And if you live in a cold climate, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about, lol! It just takes so much energy to go outside when it’s freezing! After Qais and I finish shooting for the blog in the cold we’re ready to stuff our face with carbs. And to just flop on the couch, #truestory. I mean, the cold can go now! So ready for Spring. Ready for the warmth! And so ready for not freezing my butt off when shooting looks, lol! But until Spring slowly comes I’ll be cuddled in the cosiest cardigans. Including this navy blue distressed chenille number from Shop Basic Babe. It’s SO warm and super soft! It’s also on sale too for under $40!! Top 5 Cozy Cardigans: Boohoo Urban Outfitters Basic Babe Nordstrom Revolve xo Lauren
I’ve been blogging for just over a year now and I’ve learned SO much in these past 12 months. When I first started blogging I honestly thought it’d be easy. That I could write blog posts on the fly, create content effortlessly and just get through the blogging world without breaking a sweat! Looking back in retrospect I can see how naive I was. But you live and you learn, and you just keep blogging! So here we go! 10 Blogging Mistakes I Made My First Year + How To Avoid Them! 1. Hiding my blog from others I think many new bloggers do this! When I first started my blog back in the Summer of 2016 I kept it a major secret. I didn’t want anyone who knew me to see it and I even kept it a secret from my mom (lol). I just couldn’t bear the thought of people who knew me in “real life” see my attempt to become a blogger. I thought it was better to keep it a secret just in case I failed. So I stopped blogging until December of 2016. I just decided if I was going to blog, then I was going to be real and share it with the whole world! So I re-posted on basicbabelauren.com and posted all my blogging pictures to my personal Instagram account. I just went for it. And guess what, it was the best decision I ever made! How to avoid this: Just like…
Jacket | Dress | Boots | Purse As you guys probably already know, I love faux fur and I love florals! It’s just one of my go-to pieces that I swear by. So I recently decided to combine my two faves with a pretty cute Winter outfit, if I do say so myself! And not only is this the faux fur jacket of my dreams because of the size and colour. But it is really SO warm! Perfect for bitter cold days. The dress I’m wearing is from Shein and it’s kind of like a faux wrap dress if you will! It actually just buttons on the side instead of actually wrapping. Which I really liked. It is a little low cut, so keep that in mind if you want to buy it! You can’t see it above because of my jacket, but it has kind of like mini bell sleeves. Which is super chic! If you don’t think this outfit was warm for what the weather looks like outside. You’re probably right, lol! I shot this look a couple of days after coming back from the cottage, but keep in mind the temperature at the cottage was -37 degree’s Celsius (which is -34.6 Fahrenheit)! The day I shot this look it was -7, so needless to say, -7 felt warm even in this! When you’re Canadian you take what you can get lol! xo Lauren Thanks to Shein for collaborating with me on this post!
Dress | Top (similar) | Boots | Purse I don’t know if it’s because of the Holiday season that just passed, but, I’m really feeling red! I’m usually all about my neutrals but when I saw this dungaree in red I had to have it! It also comes in black too. But, I mean, the red is just so good for this time of year! I’ve been dying to get my hands on a dungaree dress for a while now. I think they are so cute and can be dressed up or down! I love, love, love the buttons on the front and the back is even cuter (which I forgot to get a picture of, sorry lol)! I would definitely pair this with tights and my sock booties for another way to style it too! If you haven’t jumped on the pinafore/overall/dungaree dress bandwagon yet, you totally should! It’s such an easy and effortless style that always looks pulled together! I recently did a post a few months back on my top 5 overall dresses, if you want to see more styles, here! xo Lauren Thanks to Shein for collaborating with me on this post!
It’s been over a month since I started this blogging series! Thanks for your patience, I know so many people have been waiting for part 2 to be published. I’ve had so many other projects on the go, including Shop Basic Babe, that it took me longer than anticipated to sit down and write this post. But, alas, here it is! Part 2. Part 2 – How to Edit: When I first started on Instagram I had no idea how to edit! I would spend hours scrolling through different accounts and admire all these beautiful feeds. Thinking, I wish I knew how to edit or what apps to use! At first, I got a little discouraged and thought maybe editing was just not for me. I read so many different blog posts about how to edit and they were ALL so generic. None of them gave specific advice on what filters they use. What their editing process was. If they used more then one edit. And the list goes on and on. When I first started editing I definitely over edited every picture. I wanted a bright clean feed. And thought that meant raising the exposure like crazy, lol! I actually had NO idea what I was doing. I dabbled in so many different editing programs, trying to figure out how Blogger XYZ achieved that look on her Instagram. It probably took me until last Summer to really figure out how to edit my pictures to the way I like. And…
Happy Friday!! Can you believe we made it to the home stretch of Christmas?! Cardigan: Basic Babe | Top: Basic Babe | Skirt: Basic Babe | Boots: Marc Fisher (sold out – similar) | Purse: Le Chateau | Hat: H&M The Christmas countdown is seriously on in the Sheriff home. I’m the type of person who doesn’t get excited about something until a couple days away! And I can now, safely say, I am SO excited for Christmas! All my Christmas shopping is done, so now I can look forward to time with the family and celebrating the reason for the season! I can’t wait!! 🙂 One essential in my closet, for Wintertime, is an oversized cardi. There are so many different types of oversized cardigans and I like to try and have them all, lol! The most classic oversized cardigan, that you probably know and love, is the soft and long cosy cardi. Which is a definite essential in chilly weather. I also love a sophisticated oversized cardi for meetings, work, etc. Something you can throw over your outfit, be comfortable but still look professional. That’s one of the reasons I love the Marissa cardi from Shop Basic Babe. I always love having a piece that can go from work to play. I think it’s so important to have pieces that look professional but can be worn casually too! That being said, here are my top 5 favourite oversized cardi’s of the season: Top 5 Oversized Cardigans: Basic Babe Revolve H&M Goodnight Macaroon Boohoo xo Lauren
Jacket: Basic Babe (under $50!) | Top: Basic Babe (only $39!) | Jeans: Zara | Boots: Marc Fisher (sold out – similar here) | Hat: H&M | Purse: Le Chateau Can anyone else believe that there is only 1 week until Christmas!! I mean, December FLEW by! Usually, I’m done my Christmas shopping already. But I still have a few gifts and stocking stuffers to go!! So last minute this year. Here in Toronto, we’ve gotten quite a bit of snow for December. I’m not a snow kind-of-gal. But I love a white Christmas so I’m not complaining! I just hope it sticks or that we get a fresh coat of snow on Christmas eve! How magical would that be?! Something about white snow and blush pink get me all giddy inside, lol. I think it just looks so fresh. And most people this time of year stick to dark tones, which I like. But blush is just SO good this time of year! This faux fur jacket is from my store Shop Basic Babe. I am always looking for soft fur that feels warm and extra cosy to wear. And I have to say this jacket hits all the marks! I wore this outside with the Maya Puffy sleeve top and it was warm enough for me! I loved how it paired together, so chic! The jacket is under $50 and the top is only $39! Do you guys like wearing blush in the Winter? Let me know in the…
