Top 5 Rompers for Summer

Romper: Missguided (50% off with code: americanbabe) | Shoes: Aldo (under $100!) | Clutch: H&M | Sunglasses: Quay Summer so far has been strange, weather wise! I love a hot Summer and so far are weather here in Toronto has been really up and down. Plus, we’ve had a ton of rain which sucks obviously! I haven’t had much of a chance to rock rompers this season, but a few days ago it was warm enough for this cute number! Rompers really are the best for scorching hot days! I love rompers that are ultra lightweight and have a nice soft material. I also like full bum coverage (because who want’s their derriere hanging out?!). It’s always hit or miss with me when it comes to rompers. Some just hit me in a weird spot, others are too short and some are itchy and uncomfortable. So finding the perfect Summer romper is a bit of a struggle, in my opinion! But when you find it you really do hit gold! My romper is from Missguided and basically, hits all my must have in a romper list. It is so so so so soft! Like super soft. It’s lightweight and is the perfect length. I love the tropical print and the ruffle sleeves are the cutest! Qais says this is one of his fave pieces in my closet too! Even better it’s only $40 and it’s 40% off (along with everything else on Missguided’s website) with code ‘americanbabe‘! Top 5 Rompers for…

Top 5 Ruffle Dresses for any Occasion

Dress: ASOS (under $40!!) | Shoes: Steve Madden | Clutch: H&M | Sunglasses: Quay Happy Friday! This has been one heck of a long week for me. I am so glad it’s finally wrapping up and I’m excited for the next few weeks ahead! Qais and I are putting our house up on the market and downsizing to a condo. We are so excited to be entering into a new season in our life. And we are really looking forward to being close to the city! We’ve lived in suburbia for the past two years and have been talking about moving closer to the city. We just haven’t made the plunge until now!! So pray for us that our house will sell quickly and that we’ll find a pet-friendly condo in the city! Anyways, that’s just a quick update on our life so far! But today’s post is all about my favorite ruffle dresses for the Summer season. I love to have a few cocktail dresses in my wardrobe for any fun Summer parties, weddings and for fancier dinners out. Right now I am really feeling statement dresses and I am in particular loving ruffles! As you probably know, ruffles have made a pretty big comeback this season and you can find them on almost everything! I think ruffles are the perfect girly and flirty accent to really give any piece a fun and bold twist. Just like these sleeves on my dress from Boohoo (which is under $40, by the way!!).…

Top 5 Jumpsuits for Summer!

Jumpsuit: Shein (only $25!) | Purse: H&M | Sunglasses: Aldo (similar) | Shoes: Charlotte Russe (similar) Happy Hump Day! The weather is finally starting to get warm here in Toronto which makes me think of a lightweight and versatile wardrobe. I absolutely love the heat and I love dressing for the heat even more. I am totally not a layering girl so thinking of warm rays against my skin gets me so giddy, lol! One of my favourite Summer pieces is the jumpsuit. It’s one and done and always a good idea! I’ve been curious about trying a jumpsuit but wasn’t sure if it would flatter my body shape. And I wasn’t sure if I’d like pants at the bottom. I’ve been seeing them everywhere on Instagram so I really wanted to give it a try. I decided to play it safe and stick with black with pleats for some added chicness. I have to say I love, love, love this jumpsuit and it’s just so cozy and easy! It literally feels like I’m wearing my pj’s lol! And because of my new found obsession with the jumpsuit I decided to round my top 5 favorite jumpsuits of the season!: Top 5 Jumpsuits for Spring: SheIn (mine and it’s under $30!) Missguided (SO tempted to buy this!!) Showpo (LOVE this one!) Nordstrom (the perfect everyday jumpsuit) Showpo (the lbd version of a jumpsuit) xo Lauren Thank you to SheIn for collaborating with me on this post!

Top 5 Must Have Shorts for Summer

Shorts: H&M (under $30 and available in black here)| Top: H&M (couldn’t find it online but similar here)  | Shoes: Vince | Purse: H&M (gold colour) | Sunglasses: Ray Ban| Watch: Daniel Wellington (15% off with code ‘LAURENEVA’) | Necklace: BaubleBar Happy Friday babes! Short season is officially here in Toronto and I’ve been filling my closet with so many different styles of shorts. I love shorts that are cute but most importantly cozy. Shorts that are too short or too stiff literally drive me crazy! I like a pair I can through on, look put together and go! Like most girls I love myself a pair of denim shorts. But high waisted shorts have my heart for so many reasons. They hide bloated I-ate-way-too-much-food bellies, hit the tiniest spot of your body and can basically go with any top! I found these navy high waisted shorts at H&M and I have worn them three times this week already! I just lurve them and think these may be my most fave pair this season! That being said, I decided to round up my top 5 pairs of shorts you need for Summer! Top 5 Must Have Shorts for Summer: 1.  H&M (mine above) 2. Urban Outfitters (the best mom shorts/90’s inspired) 3. Levi’s (love these!) 4. Missguided (want these so bad!!) 5. Wildfox (need these in my life!)

Top 5 Aztec Skirts

One trend that always seems to repeat itself every single Summer would be the embroidered skirt. I absolutely love wearing embroidered skirts as soon as the warm weather hits . Floral embroidery is obviously a huge trend and I’ve rounded up my favourites for those here. But, there is just something about an aztec embroidered skirt that gives me all the Summer feels. And I just love pairing it with a fresh white tee for an easy Summer look! TOP 5 EMBROIDERED SKIRTS: Showpo (this counts as aztec print right?!) Boohoo (so cute in mint and under $20!) Madewell (probably the most similar to mine above) Missguided (you can always count on this retailer!) Revolve (need this in my life!!)

My Top 5 Denim Dresses for Spring!

Dress: Boohoo (only $35!) | Shoes: Charlotte Russe | Purse: BP (similar here) | Sunglasses: Shades Crush c/o Okay, I know I say this a lot buuuut….. I have a new obsession! Denim dresses! I have to say at first I wasn’t completely sold on wearing denim as a dress. Heck, I barely wear denim as jeans. BUT, I decided to give it a go and see if I liked it or not! And I have to say, I. Am. SOLD! So I first started considering denim dresses when I saw Dress Up Buttercup wear it here. I loved it but didn’t think I could pull it off! I kept thinking about this dress over and over (clearly I need to get a life, lol!). And wanted to buy it but didn’t want to spend that much on a dress I loved but didn’t know if I would love on me. When I was shopping the Boohoo sale a few weeks back (everything was 50% off!), I saw this chambray dress I’m wearing. It looked cute, easy to wear and super easy to style. So I made the plunge and added the darker wash to my cart! When I first tried it on I was 100% loving it. And disclaimer, I don’t love the 3/4 length sleeves on this dress. They are super tight and don’t button up! But, other then the sleeves I absolutely love this dress! It’s really more of a chambray dress then denim, but I think it’s close enough! It’s a great dress…

My Top 5 Embroidered Skirts for Spring!

Bodysuit: Boohoo (only $16!) | Skirt: Boohoo | Shoes: Le Chateau (similar here and here) | Purse: Aldo (similar here) | Sunglasses: Aldo (similar here) So this Spring I decided I wanted to try as many trends as I can. I mean the fact that my blog is called Basic Babe tells you I like to keep my outfits pretty ‘basic’ most of time. As in, I don’t wear a lot of accessories, I don’t mix crazy patterns, and I definitely don’t jump on every trend! But that being said, having this blog is definitely pushing me outside of my comfort zone which has been a really good thing! I’m finding myself more interested in trying new trends and new styles more then ever before! Not that this trend is a crazy one by any means, but, I do believe it is a trend that can easily be worn and styled by just about anyone. Florals are an obvious given in Springtime for most which makes embroirded florals a pretty easy trend to love! When I saw the embroiderery trend begin last Fall I definitely didn’t think I’d be into it. It reminded me of my childhood and all the embroidered denim my mom bought for me. At the time, embroidered denim was kinda cool but I just couldn’t shake thinking of elementary school when I looked at it. I can’t say I’m all in with this embroidered trend just quite yet. But I am loving embroidered denim skirts like no tomorrow!…

My Top 5 Side Slit Skirts for Spring!

Skirt: M Boutique (similar here and here) | Top: H&M (love this one here) | Jacket: H&M (sold out – similar here) | Purse: Le Chateau (under $50!) | Sunglasses: Ray-Ban | Shoes: Forever 21 (under $30!) Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend spent with friends and family. Qais (pronounced K-ICE – like dice with a k) and I had Good Friday and Easter Sunday off, so we didn’t get a long weekend, but we enjoyed taking our time and enjoying the day! On Thursday evening we saw The Fate of the Furious with our pups at the drive in. On Friday we enjoyed the day in the city and went to one of our favourite places to eat (and has the best margaritas!) El Catrin. And then on Sunday we spent the morning shooting, enjoying coffee at Dark Horse and then having a homemade meal with our fam, courtesy of my husband! This look has become one of my go-to looks as the weather warms up! I’ve had this skirt since last Spring and love the cut and the length of it. I find it’s the perfect transitional skirt into Spring because of the coverage of the leg. So when their is a slight coolness in the air it keeps me warm and I just throw my beloved moto jacket over a tank or a tee! I actually wear this outfit more then I would like to admit, lol, it’s just one of my go-to’s when I have no…
