Random Life Update!

Top | Jeans | Jacket | Boots (similar) | Purse Hey guys! Happy Wednesday! I feel like it’s been so long since I’ve given you guys a life update. Sometimes it’s just nice to share what’s going on in my life with my blog readers. It’s almost therapeutic to write it out. Especially since these last few months have been such a huge change for me! So where should I start… WORK LIFE: Firstly, life has been HECTIC since Shop Basic Babe has started. Now, SBB isn’t my first business. I owned a children’s store before. But man, is SBB teaching me SO much. I feel like once you own your own business, you kinda feel like you know what you’re doing. But I’m learning I don’t. I’m so thankful I have such a great team helping me with SBB. I am learning soooo much about branding, marketing and really how to make an online business work. And it seriously is more work then I expected. So naive I know. Overall, the online shop has been a hustle but so good at the same time! My blog is getting a facelift – which is much needed! So excited to show you guys the reveal. It was just time to freshen it up and re-brand. I’ve also felt like it was just time. I have an editing guide here if you were wondering about editing. But today’s blog post is how to take the ‘perfect’ picture before editing! So let’s jump right in! 3 Guaranteed Ways to Make your Blog (or Instagram) Pictures Better!: 1. Create a story Don’t just take a picture. Create a story. Use buildings in the background to create interest, depth and height. Take advantage of the way the sunlight is hitting the road or the way it’s hitting your hair. Look at your surroundings and try to make them create a story for either your blog post or Instagram. Create a vibe or a feeling. Nothing is more captivating than an image that creates a story. It’s so easy to take a picture in front of a wall and call it a day. But it’s so much more exciting and inspiring to use your surrounding to help tell the story about your outfit! 2. Capture the candid To really create a story try and capture the candid moments. Nothing shoots better than an authentic walk (vs the fake walk – which rarely looks good). Top 5 Transitional Pieces for Spring

Top (under $40) | Jacket (love this one here) | Jeans | Boots (similar here) | Purse Happy Friday! The weather is finally starting to warm up in Toronto. And I desperately hope it stays that way! Everytime Spring starts to show it’s face, I like to slowly start adding lightweight knits and transitional pieces into my closet. I absolutely love adding transitional pieces to my closet. Trend to Try: The Pajama Shirt

Bodysuit | Jeans | Boots (similar) | Jacket | Purse Honestly, who would have thought it would be cool to wear your pajamas out in public? I mean in elementary school I always avoided pajama day cause I thought it was strange, lol. I clearly thought pajamas were for sleeping only and it took awhile for me to jump on this new trend! I’ve been seeing this trend everywhere lately! And it honestly hasn’t tickled my fancy. Most of the pajama trend has a lot of big prints on them. And as you guys know, I’m not a print kind of gal. But when I was at Zara last weekend I found this beauty and knew I had to have it! Firstly, I LOVE bodysuits so that was the first win. Secondly, it’s white and neutrals are always a win! After trying this on with my favourite jeans I am now officially a love of the pajama trend. And not to mention the materials for this pajama trend is silky (or faux silk in my case) goodness. Currently Crushing On: Faux Fleece Pullovers

Sweater | Pants | Shoes | Hat | Purse Yay for Friday! And yay for super-cosy-and-seriously-warm sweaters! Cause this Canadian girl is so over the cold and nothing beats a comfy soft sweater to help ease the pain of Winter! But for real though, this sweater is everythaaaang! And they’ve been everywhere for good reason! I honestly don’t dress like this out much. But I might start now! When I was shooting this look I was seriously in heaven wearing this pullover. The only thing that was weird was not wearing heels. I’m a total heels girl so no heels are weird for me lol! Anyways, we just released this two-tone faux fleece pullover at Shop Basic Babe. It’s easily my favourite sweater in the shop. And it’s the perfect sweater for basically every woman. It’s just so easy to throw on and go. It definitely makes a statement in a good way. And most importantly, it is WARM! Like soooo warm. Totally Canadian approved! So if you’re looking to expand your sweater collection in the near future then this baby is it! Top 5 Paper Bag Pants You Need to Try!

I know I use the word obsession very loosely, lol, but these pants are just giving me ALL the feels! I’ve honestly been in a fashion rut lately and haven’t felt inspired to try new styles. But after seeing these at H&M I just knew I needed them! They were just so different and finally inspired me to style my wardrobe and take some fresh new blog pics! Off topic, but if you’re a fashi0n blogger reading this then have you been in a rut lately too? I don’t know if it’s the cold weather or what. But lately, the idea of styling myself for a shoot seems so dang hard!! Which brings me to another point. Spring, you can come any time now. Thanks. Back to the post. Currently Crushing on: GRLFRND Jeans

Jeans | Cardigan | Bodysuit | Boots (similar) | Purse   I haven’t done a currently crushing blog post in a long while and it’s definitely overdue! Especially with these GRLFRND jeans! OMG! I am obsessed. Like I would totally wear these every single day if I could! If you’ve been following me for awhile you may know that I never was a jeans girl. I could never find a pair that flattered my legs. And I could never find a pair that would hold it’s shape and look good after months of owning them. So if you are anything like I were then you need to read this post! Okay so, I’ll be honest. GRLFRND jeans may be a bit a splurge. They are a major splurge for me! I honestly don’t spend over $60 on jeans. But, you honestly do get what you pay for when it come’s to jeans. So the question is… are these couple hundred dollar jeans worth it? Yes! If you’re looking to get many, many, many wears out of jeans then these are for you!
