Todays blog post is about building a versatile wardrobe on a small budget. Which, in my opinion, can be very hard to do. Especially when your a huge fan of fashion and want. it. all! Quite honestly, it took me a while to get a hang on building a wardrobe that was small but versatile. I’m sure I’m not alone when I wish I could have endless amounts of cash to buy designer items and luxe goods. But the reality is that a great wardrobe doesn’t come down to cost, but to style and knowing what pieces will go a loooong way!

 

My 3 Tips on How to Build a Versatile Wardrobe on a Budget:

 

1. Choose a colour palette and stick with it!

This tip is a great starting point if you don’t know where to start. First, think of your favourite colours or colours you tend to gravitate to in your wardrobe. Now narrow it down to 3 or 4 colours. For example, my colours are black, grey, tan and white. Now mine are pretty much all neutrals which obviously makes it really versatile to begin with, since all neutrals work together easily. But if you have some colours in your palette (such as red, pink or yellow) then be sure to have at least 1 or 2 of your colours neutral. For example, if your colours are pink and red try adding in white and black so you can mix and match your wardrobe.

The reason why choosing a colour palette for your wardrobe is essential for a small budget is so you can create endless outfits with the same pieces over and over again. When you have multiple colours and patterns and a small wardrobe it makes it difficult to curate different outfits on a daily basis.

2. Make basics your best friend, and learn to layer!

Your secret weapon for a budget friendly wardrobe is a few good basics. I’m not only talking t-shirts and long sleeve shirts, but basic dresses (think t-shirt dresses and solid colour dresses here!). Basics are great for so many reasons but mainly because you can wear them on repeat with everything. Most girls go-to for styling basics are layering t-shirts under a blazer or tucking them into a good pair of denim, which are all great choices for styling, but, make layering your best friend. Layer vests over long sleeve tops and skirts. Moto jackets over t-shirts and denim. And layer cardigans over dresses.

Once you combine your colour palette with your basics and layering techniques you will have already created so many more outfits then you thought possible!

3. Splurge on classics, save on trends (an oldie but a goodie!)

You’ve probably heard this 1000x before but this really is the best advice you’ll ever hear! Think of timeless pieces as in investment. A good wardrobe always has a few classic pieces that go season-to-season and year-to-year. That means splurge on a good pair of black pumps, a black blazer and that wool coat you’ve been eyeing. You can’t ever go wrong with these these pieces. For your trendier stuff hit up Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe, keep it cheap since it’s trendy and will probably go out of style soon.

Versatility is not always about quantity but having great pieces that transition from look to look effortlessly!
