Happy Monday and happy Memorial Day to all my American readers! Here in Canada, we celebrated our long weekend (which is Victoria’s Day) last weekend! Long weekends in the Spring and Summer are seriously the best and I’m already excited for the next one!

Summer to me equals easy outfits that are light weight and flowy. But, I also like to just throw on a pair of jeans and a tank or an off the shoulder top in the Summer too! As much as I love dressing up, relaxed days and errands calls for a jeans and t-shirt kind of feel. Now that being said I always try to amp up my ‘basic’ outfits to make them more fun and stylish. I love wearing jeans and a plain top but honestly that can be a little boring if you don’t find ways to make it a little more fun! That being said here are my go-to tricks on making my everyday outfits waaay more fab:

3 STEPS ON MAKING A BASIC LOOK NOT SO BASIC:

1. It’s All About the Shoes

Rule of thumb for most outfits is it’s all about your shoes! Shoes can most definitely make or break an outfit and for a more simple look this is no exception. When I just wear a pair of jeans and a plain top I always make sure my shoes are either a trendy heel or a cool pair of kicks. Right now I am loving jeans with mules! Plus, mules are so comfy and pretty much go with everything. Or try a pair of Adida’s Superstar to make your look casual cool too!

2.  Make a Statement

Another really easy trick is using a statement piece. My usual go-to statement piece are my cat eye sunglasses! Or another fab statement piece would be tassel earrings or even a statement necklace. A pop of colour from your purse can also be another way to add interest to your outfit too!

3. Try a Trendy Piece

One of my favorite tricks on turning a basic look not so basic is incorporating a trend! I have two trends incorporated in my look; mules and the off the shoulder top. It’s an easy way to add a dash of style and truthfully a cheap way too! I always buy all my really trendy pieces from retailers such as Forever 21 and Missguided since I know they won’t be in style forever.

These are my 3 tricks I use whenever I am jetting out of my house in jeans! What are your go-to tricks on prettying up a basic outfit?
