Yay for Friday! And yay for my quick trip to NYC on business this weekend! I’m looking for some restaurant recommendations, specifically sushi. So if you know of any good sushi spots in NYC hit me up! I usually go to Nobu, and absolutely love it, but would love to try something new too!

As you guys probably know, I love wearing easy pieces. Everything from basics to throw on and go pieces. I just love the idea of easy and effortless dressing! Apart of easy and effortless dressing is definitely getting the most out of all your pieces. Especially, basic everyday pieces. One of my favourite things to do is to elevate my basics. There is nothing better than feeling like you really tried with your outfit when you actually really didn’t! I mean, that is basically my style in a nutshell. Looking like I tried when I really haven’t!

So here are my top 3 tips on elevating your basics and looking like you really tried!

3 Easy Ways to Elevate Your Basics:

1.Wear a statement piece

A statement piece is all you need to really pull a basic look to an effortless look. This velvet cape blazer is such a statement piece and looks great dressed up or down. As soon as I got this blazer I knew I wanted to dress it down for an everyday look. There is nothing more classic or easier than throwing a blazer over a tee. Another great way to wear a statement piece this season is wearing a plaid blazer over a white tee and some jeans. Plaid is SO in and such an easy way to be trendy and effortless at the same time.

A few other statement pieces that really make a basic outfit is a leather jacket, a faux fur coat or a pair of wide leg pants with a long or short sleeve tee tucked in (which is one of my fave looks)!

2. Make sure your #shoegame is strong

I am a huge believer in shoes making the outfit. I mean I’m a shoe girl and there is seriously nothing better than a great pair of shoes to finish off your outfit. Try amping up your basic outfit by adding a pair of white booties, sock booties or velvet kicks to your look! Shoes are meant to be fun, so go cray cray and don’t be afraid to amp up your shoe game! Especially if you’re like me and like to keep a more minimalistic closet.

3. Let your purse do the talking

Last but not least, choose a purse that pops! Stay away from your basic black purse and pick one with a lot of hardware, detail or even a what I like to call ‘daytime’ clutch to change things up! Now I don’t know if a ‘daytime’ clutch is a thing, but that’s what I call my clutches that are daytime appropriate like this one! Now I by no means have an extensive purse collection. But when I’m trying to elevate my basics I always try to choose a purse that is more eye-catching or one that is unexpected. It just adds so much more interest to a basic look!
